Virtue Cellars

Virtue Cellars

WA state is full of incredible wineries and people who make solid, solid wine. Lucky enough for Edmonds, there are tons of wine shops and places that offer wine but finding a spot that produces their own holds a special place in our hearts. The dedication, pure passion and hard work that goes into it is nothing short of incredible. We sat down with our good friend of the shop, Jake Edens, one of the founders of Virtue Cellars based in Edmonds WA.

Tell us about your journey into wine and how Virtue came to be?

Virtue Cellars is a product of myself and my childhood friend Kevin Muellers love for wine. After we both graduated from college we both found wine in different ways and ended up linking back up in 2015 to start our journey.

We a small family winery located in the Richmond Beach neighborhood of Shoreline, producing small lot, terroir-focused wines from the most distinguished vineyards in the Columbia Valley.  Quality is at the heart of everything we do at Virtue.  Producing less than 2500 cases per year, all our wines are hand-made by us with purposeful production techniques and meticulous attention to detail.

Our winemaking philosophy is to construct small lot, single-vineyard/single-varietal wines that showcase unique aromas & flavors of specific sites, which are often lost in larger multi-vineyard blended wines. Our focus is to ensure that every bottle of Virtue delivers a unique and enjoyable tasting experience, along with an origin story all its own.

Is there anyone who has influenced your journey or you take inspiration from?

My influences have been vast from many different worlds including art, music, fashion and family all embracing the every day hustle showing that hard work and passion for what you do can really pay off. Embracing the uncomfortable and doubling down on your self has been a big driving factor in our Virtue project that was thankfully instilled in us by many of the people we looked up to in each one of these industry’s.

What are you most excited for in the future for Virtue? Any special releases or bottles you're excited about?

Other then the new learning opportunities and growth we will have making wine which are always exciting, I love watching our community out of the tasting room grow. It’s special to watch a project you worked so hard on take on a life of its own that’s out of your control that has turned into a special place to so many people.

Our next big release will be the reserve wines coming in September. Part of that release will be a wine called Dedication. This is a 470 clone Syrah made out of borderlands vineyard and a completely new profile of wine that we have ever made. We are pumped about this wine.
